Player Development

The primary goal of the Mid-State Mustangs is player development.  The organization believes that to develop players, great coaches who run high level practices are critical.

Coaches

The first step in developing hockey players is having excellent coaches.  The Mustangs will have coaches who have played and coached at the collegiate level, coaches who have spent their lives dedicated to the sport and the kids involved.  The goal is to have coaches who do not have a son or daughter on the team.

Practices

Teams will practice 18-20 times from April through August.  Each practice will consist of two hours of on ice training, and one hour of off ice training.  Practices will focus on both individual skills and team concepts.  Coaches will spend considerable time on skating, stick handling, passing, and shooting skills.  Practices will also focus on team concepts, such as power plays, penalty kills, fore-checks, neutral zone breakouts and traps, and defensive zone coverage.  During off ice sessions, players will work out with professional trainers or classroom lectures.

Games/Tournaments

Each Mustang team will play in a total of four away tournaments throughout the United States and Canada.  We believe that this comprehensive schedule and the level of competition will develop our players into more complete hockey players.
